Lauren Laverne reveals her passion for art

Lauren Laverne, the Radio DJ, television presenter and art enthusiast talks passionately about the role of ‘the muse’ in art, selecting Pauline Boty’s painting The Only Blonde in the World 1963 and John Everett Millais’ Ophelia 1851-52 from Tate Britain’s collection of British Art.  Both of these work’s capture the spirit and vulnerability of the women they focus on.  Of Boty’s work, she says “It’s of Marilyn Monroe but it’s not really showing that person, and I think that’s an interesting comment on the idea of someone being beautiful and someone being a muse”.   She expands, “I admire their [the muses] commitment, it’s a difficult thing being a muse – you are only as other people see you, you never really represent yourself because other people have always got the paintbrush.”  Other names to take part in this campaign to champion British Art and Artists include newsreader Jon Snow and musician Ghostpoet.
