TAPEtoTAPE lives!

As the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed, TAPEtoTAPE has been very quiet recently… As excuses go there is a good one, well I think so anyway!

Having spent nearly a month in America with Kodiak Jack recording their second album time has escaped me slightly.  Having been cooped up with Tesla’s Brian Wheat at his newly refurbished J Street Recording Studio for many weeks it has been a struggle to get back up to speed with life back in Blighty.  But we are almost there. Almost.

Over the next few weeks we will be tweaking the TAPEtoTAPE website, revealing the new look logo and of course most importantly, bringing you plenty of reviews news and features.

Coming very soon there will be a fantastic retrospective interview with Status Quo from Pete Makowski’s archives, new interviews with Brian Wheat and SoulMotor’s Darin Wood plus loads more!

TAPEtoTAPE lives, the future is unwritten… well, our future will mainly be written but you get what I mean.

Depeche Mode return with new album and single

With the release of their brand new album Delta Machine, due on the 26th March, Depeche Mode have just released the video for the first single Heaven.  Beautiful, melancholic, gospel tinged… Depeche Mode can do no wrong.

Kodiak Jack team up with Brian Wheat (Tesla/SoulMotor) for album number two!

After a successful 2012 playing gigs up and down the country, several festival slots and plenty of airplay, the time has come for Kodiak Jack to move on…

The debut album Your Death: My Glory received critical acclaim across the board with Room Thirteen calling it “an album that sounds truly epic”, Uber Rock declared it “a top notch debut album, chock-a-block with catchy anthems” and Classic Rock magazine stated “Their debut is assured and urgent”… That however was then, and this is very much now.

January 2013 will see Kodiak Jack returning to the studio to record their sophomore effort and confident that they can eclipse their début with their best songs to date.

We are very proud to announce the band will be recording the new album at J Street Studios in Sacramento, California and that Brian Wheat, bassist with US rock giants Tesla will be taking on production duties.

Having worked with the likes of Deftones and Papa Roach as well as Tesla and SoulMotor, we are excited to be able to follow in the footsteps of some of the USA’s finest exports.

Brian has become a fan of Kodiak Jack over the past year, so when the opportunity to work with him came up we all naturally jumped at the chance.  With his experience on both sides of the mixing desk combined with his ear for a rock anthem we couldn’t wish for a better choice to lead Kodiak Jack to the next level.

Brian will be coming over to the UK for a week of pre-production before we head over to the States to begin the recording process.  Ahead of this Kodiak Jack will be playing at the Deco in Portsmouth on Saturday 19^th January and unveiling some of the new tracks from the album for the very first time.  We may just be able to get Brian along to attend as well…

Recording begins on the 27^th January for four weeks, during this time we will be filming a documentary of the sessions and there will be daily blogs from members of the band so you can keep up with the progress of the album.

David Bowie makes a surprise, but very welcome return!

Having seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth for a good few years, David Bowie has done what he does best, surprised us all!

On the day of his 66th birthday he released his first new track for a decade and announced an album will follow in March.  The single Where Are We Now? is a beautifully melancholic affair, wistful but still sounding like Bowie.  The album The Next Day will follow in March…

RED MEASURE

NO-ONE’S FACE EP

This three-piece Nashville-based band, Red Measure, produce brooding, cavernous, beat-centric rock music that explodes with life’s fierce and endless struggle. Red Measure, founded in 2009 by guitarist and vocalist Randall Suarez, are a meticulous bunch devoted to unleashing eloquent truths through riveting live performances and carefully-crafted recordings.

Red Measure’s evolution continues to invoke the likes of legendary indie rock band Queens of the Stone Age, The Birthday Party (Nick Cave) and Millionaire whilst paying homage to the imaginative artistry of musical philosophers like Beck, Tom Waits and Ol’ Dirty Bastard.  Despite the influences, musically the band evoke the likes of Melvins, Lungfish and Mudhoney in places, an emotive throwback to proto-grunge.

Throughout his teens, Suarez composed a series of gritty purely-instrumental guitar pieces and eventually added poetry and textured drum and bass layers in order to create cathartic, complex songs that laid the ground work for what was to become Red Measure. Suarez is committed to producing songs that delve into the strange darkness of life’s shadows and become an outlet for intense, personal words and No One’s Face is no exception.

HOT WATER MUSIC Premieres New Music Video for “Drag My Body” with VEVO

Florida’s own HOT WATER MUSIC have just debuted their new music video for “Drag My Body“.  This track, along with twelve others, can be found on their eighth album in nearly two decades, Exister, which is out now.

Bullet For My Valentine unveil album artwork and new single

Welsh rock band Bullet For My Valentine will release the first official single from their forthcoming album TEMPER TEMPER, entitled “RIOT“, on 2nd February.  The band’s fourth studio album TEMPER TEMPER will follow on 11th February.

The album will be available in both standard and deluxe editions on RCA Records.

The rock giants recently headlined Radio 1’s Rock Week at the BBC Maida Vale studios where they debuted the title track.  They have also announced a UK tour for March which is already sold out.

The album TEMPER TEMPER was produced by Don Gilmore (Linkin Park / Pearl Jam) who worked with the band on their previous album, 2010’s Fever, and was recorded in Thailand and Wales.  Fever debuted in the Top 10 in the UK (#5), USA (#3), Japan (#1), Australia (#5), Austria (#2), Canada (#4), Germany (#3) and Switzerland (#7).

AWARD WINNING ROCK DUO RETURN WITH NEW ALBUM AND UK TOUR DATES

On 4th March 2013, award winning British duo The Union will release their third album, ‘The World Is Yours’, preceded by a 10-date UK tour starting on 13th February.

The release of ‘The World Is Yours’ comes hot on the heels of The Union’s last album, ‘Siren’s Song’, receiving a nomination for ‘Album Of The Year’ at Classic Rock Magazine’s 2012 ‘Roll of Honour Awards’.

The Union was formed by guitarist Luke Morley and vocalist/guitarist Peter Shoulder after Luke’s twenty-year career with Thunder came to an end in 2009.  Peter Shoulder was the vocalist, songwriter and musical rudder of Winterville.  In 2006 he won The W.C Handy Blues Foundation award, presented to him in Memphis for co-writing the American Blues Song of the Year, ‘Think of Me’.  The song was performed by blues legend Little Milton.  At the time of winning, there were only two other British artists to have received that particular award, the others being Eric Clapton and Peter Green.

The Union’s eponymous debut album was released in August 2010 to acclaim from both fans and the critics, and saw the band end the year on a high when they were voted ‘Best New Band’ at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards, where they celebrated in style by performing live to a hall packed with rock royalty.

2011 saw the band tour with the recently reformed Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake on their respective UK tours, as well as a successful first foray into Europe as the special guests of Belgian rockers Triggerfinger, before releasing their celebrated second album ‘Siren’s Song’.

When it came to recording ‘The World Is Yours’, The Union decamped to Walton Castle.  Luke Morley said, “We’ve used Walton Castle as a writing location on all our albums so far so we thought it’d be good to record there, too. We set up a temporary control room in one of the turrets and took advantage of all the great sounding rooms. The place has a unique vibe that really suits us ”.

Released on 4th March, ‘The World Is Yours’ is set to further enhance The Union’s reputation as one of the finest rock bands in the UK today.
